Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, January 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a chest high set. It’s closing out SOME, but it actually looks fun on the outgoing tide this morning.
Winds are north at 10 knots, and surf zone is side-shore and clean.
Look for winds to rotate westerly at 10 to 15 knots later this morning. Wind will get gusty this afternoon from the west at 15 to 20. Hopefully this westerly wind will have an off-shore component to it, or it could rag out the surf some.
We have a low tide this morning at 9:22 a.m., and a high tide at 3:15. We see another low tide at 9:30 p.m.
Virtual buoy data is reading 4.6 ft. at 6 seconds in a short period-south wind swell.
There is some swell moving into the beach this morning, and winds are favorable, early. Look for westerly winds to increase this afternoon, making for more crossed up conditions, but still some ride-able surf all day. This swell will be short-lived as winds increase from the west late today with surf falling off for Saturday. There will be a similar low pressure crossing our marine area early next week, possibly producing some SMALL surf for Tuesday.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A storm system will move through the region today. High pressure will then bring dry and seasonal weather into early next week. Another weak storm system could impact the area later Monday into Tuesday. High pressure will likely return for Wednesday and Thursday.”
It is a 48* and cloudy this morning. Look for clouds, light rain showers today and a high of 50*.
Water temperature is 56*.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:29 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
