FRIDAY JUNE 3

Choppy and windy

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Knee-thigh
Traffic: moderate
Parking: to be found
Dangers: current

Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Friday, June 3 at 8:30 a.m.

Hurricane season has begun, and there is already some tropical action brewing in the Gulf of Mexico that could push in some surf late in the weekend into early next week.

We have small, jumbled surf at Folly this morning. Waves are knee-thigh high with a strong current.

Winds are south-west at 14 knots, and surf is choppy with a strong drift from south to north.

Look for winds to become south-west this afternoon increasing late to 10-15 knots. Winds should go south at some point today maintaining 10-15 knots.

High tide will be at 11:14 a.m., and low tide will be at 4:57 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 0.7 feet at 11.4 seconds, south/south-west swell. We have a short period southeast wind swell 4.3 feet and 5.6 seconds.

We see a cold front approaches our marine area today. This front becomes stationary over the weekend. This will bring some south-west wind swell for Friday, transitioning to a building drifty easterly wind swell on Saturday. We are monitoring a tropical low (right now Invest 91L and possibly Tropical Storm Alex this weekend) moving out of the GOMEX , across the Florida peninsula, and into our swell window Sunday afternoon into Monday. Best guess is Monday perhaps being the best of the two days with less easterly wind, especially late Monday morning. Look for some leftovers on the incoming tide Tuesday before swell begins to fade mid-week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will move through the area today then transition into a stationary front along the Southeast coast over the weekend. Low pressure originating in the tropics is expected to pass to our southeast early next week. High pressure will then prevail into the middle of next week.”

It’s 82* and sunny.  High of 86* with sun and breezy.

Water Temperature is around 82*.

Sunrise is at 6:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:24 p.m.
