Time of Report: 8:30am
Wave Forecast: knee-thigh with a waist high set
Traffic: moderate
Parking: plenty
Dangers: none

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, March 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-thigh high and soft at the high tide. Not as much swell in the water today as has been this week. Bring the long-board is the best call.

Winds are strong from the northeast, and surf zone is side-shore, with a good drift running down the beach this morning.

Look for winds to continue northeast this morning at 15 to 20 knots. Decreasing 10 to 15 knots this afternoon. We should see a choppy, surf zone with drift from north-to-south all day.

We have a high tide as of report time, low tide will be at 3:02 p.m. The next high tide will be at 9:15 p.m

The Edisto Buoy is showing a short-period north-east wind swell 6.2 ft at 6 seconds with a high angle on it. Most of it is passing by our beaches.

We see small, choppy, north-east wind swell building today. It’s drifty and choppy, not much to write home about. Look for another south trade-wind swell this weekend with bigger conditions and south winds as high pressure sets up well off the mid-Atlantic starting small-ish Saturday and building Sunday as a cold front approaches and high pressure sets up off the mid-Atlantic. Should be bigger waves starting late Sunday and this trend continues into the middle part of the next work week as winds come strong south-west with a possible clean up on Tuesday evening.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will build over the area through early next week. A cold front could impact the region by the middle of next week, bringing unsettled conditions.”

It’s 56* with sun. Expect a nice, breezy beach day with a high of 63* and sun.

Water Temperature is up to around 60*. It should be on the rise later this week as warm temperatures return.

Sunrise is at 6:43 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:19 p.m.
