Good morning, this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, May 29 at 8:30 a.m.

The City of Folly Beach is now open. Social distancing rules will be enforced. Please see the City of Folly Beach’s Web Site for more information.

We will be open from 9:15 a.m. until 6 p.m. Please follow social distancing protocols when shopping.

Waves at Folly this morning are knee-thigh high with a few larger waist high peaks in a short to medium period east, south-east swell. Overall, waves look pretty weak and textured out there.

Winds are south, south-west at 10-14 knots this morning, and surf zone is semi-choppy, likely to maintain this level of texture as the day progresses through incoming tide this afternoon. The wave should build with the afternoon tide, but expect surf to remain in that waist high range with some texture, due to the continued SSW winds.

Winds are predicted to remain SSW throughout the day , leveling off to 5-10 mph late this afternoon with occasional strong gusts in the 5-10 mph range.

High tide is at 1:58 p.m., and low tide will be at 7:59 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.3 ft at 7.7 seconds in a combination of medium period east swell and short period east, south-east wind swell.

It’s 77 degrees with scattered clouds/thunderstorms this morning. Look for a high of 81* with potential for showers throughout the day.

Water temperature is around 78*.  Back to boardies and bikinis.

Sunrise is at 6:14 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:21 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.

Weekly Wave Forecast

This afternoon seems like your best bet for bigger waves today, as winds should become more favorable late morning into early afternoon, as well as incoming tide providing a slightly bigger bump to play with. Regardless, winds today will add a fair amount of chop to the surf, so expect a texture waist high wave at best. Small easterly trade wind swell looks to fill in again this weekend, with the most promising days looking to be Monday and Tuesday. Looks like the swell should hold on for the next few days. We’ll we will keep you posted!
