Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, May 6 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at The Washout this morning are knee-high but look to be building.

Winds are south/south-west at 12 knots and surf is semi-choppy and weak in a fresh south-west wind swell ahead of an approaching cold front.

Look for winds from the south-west at 10 knots this morning, becoming more south-westerly at 15 to 20 this afternoon. Look for a choppy surf zone today.

We are coming off a low tide. High tide is at 12:25 a.m., and low tide will be at 6:08 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 feet at 7 seconds in a short period, mixed south/south-east wind swell.

Look for choppy, building south-west wind swell today. A cold-front approaches as we enter the weekend and surf should increase in choppy south-west wind swell late today and Saturday morning, when winds are predicted westerly; more off-shore. This should clean up a rapidly dropping south-west wind wave Saturday afternoon. Sunday looks to be pretty small as wind and swell begins to rotate north, Next week, low pressure is predicted to form to our north-east, off the mid-Atlantic states with blocking high pressure to the north. This could push up a high angled north-east swell Tuesday and into the late next week as the low meanders to our south. Swell looks like it will have a lot of north in it. Likely some wind and waves for Folly, but this swell will probably hit a lot better in Florida. So, if you have the means, head down that way for some real surf.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will move through tonight, then high pressure will build over the area through the middle of next week. An upper low will bring unsettled weather late next week.”

It’s 77* with clouds this morning. Look for the perfect beach day with a high of 80* and sunshine. Clouds and storms approach late afternoon.

Water Temperature is around 75*.  It’ll be 80* before you know it.

Sunrise is at 6:27 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:05 p.m.
