Surf at the Washout is knee to thigh high with a waist set in a small, building ground-swell. Its closing out at the lower tide this morning. Ground swell has slowly been building at the buoy.

The surf zone is clean early with a north/north-east wind at 5 to 8 knots.

Winds will stay moderate today from the north-east most of the morning but will pick up significantly from the east this afternoon, adding side-shore chop and drifty conditions to a slowly building ground swell later today.

We have a low tide at 10 a.m., and a high tide at 4:31 pm. The next low tide is at 10:53 p.m.

The Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 ft at 12 seconds in a building long-period south-east swell compliments of hurricane Sam.

Swell from Major Hurricane Sam begins to filter into our beaches this afternoon, but strong easterly winds are predicted to make surf-zone choppy today.  Long period ground swell builds significantly on Saturday, but there will be some easterly winds in it. Currently predicted at 10 to 12 knots for tomorrow. Swell should continue into Sunday, before falling off Sunday afternoon. Look for a windier ground swell to fill in Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, with east-to-north east winds keeping things choppy.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will be the main feature through the weekend. A complex storm system will then bring periods of unsettled weather through mid-next week.”

It’s a beautiful 74* and sunny. Look for a high of 81* and sun today. Awesome fall weather here at Folly Beach.

Water temperature is back up to 80*.

Sunrise is at 7:14 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:04 p.m.
