Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, October 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Keep in mind, there are no more parking restriction at Folly Beach. Parking is now available on Center Street and all side-streets.
The Folly Beach Pier is now closed as they prepare to tear it down and build a new structure.
Surf at Folly is showing waist-to-stomach high with a rare chest-high set. It’s super drained out on the lower tide this morning, but should improve and pick up a bit on the incoming tide later this morning.
Winds are very light from the west, and surf zone is very clean.
Look for winds to come more onshore from the east and increase around 10 by mid-afternoon. This should add some bump and a wind-chop to the surf zone.
We are coming off a low tide, high tide will be at 2:30 p.m. The next low tide will be at 8:39 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 7.4 ft at 14 seconds in a long-period east ground swell.
Surf should pick up through the high tide early afternoon. It’s averaging waist-to-stomach high, early. Easterly winds will get into it a bit this afternoon, chopping things up. Look for surf to continue a bit smaller on Saturday as Hurricane Epsilon begins to move north. There should be some rideable leftovers for your Saturday. We also have Invest 95 firing up again south of the Caribbean, and it could move into our swell window, but it’s not looking super promising right now. We should see some pre-frontal trade-wind swell during the middle of next week, as a cold front approaches late week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Weak high pressure and a coastal trough will persist into this weekend. A weak cold front is forecasted to move through the region early next week followed by another front late next week.”
It’s 72* this morning with clouds at the beach and showers. Look for a high today around 77* and mostly cloudy skies with some sun possible this afternoon. There is a chance for a shower.
Water temperature is 72*.
Sunrise is at 7:30 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:36 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
