Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, September 24 at 8:30 a.m.
We actually got a few Billabong men’s spring suits and men’s and women’s O’Neill wetsuit jackets in, so come grab one while we have a few left. It has cooled off a good bit late week.
Surf at the Washout is knee to thigh high. There is an inconsistent waist set.
Winds are blowing pretty hard from the north/north-east – side shore – at 15 to 20 knots. Surf is semi-choppy. It is rideable, but there is a drift down the beach with the strong north-east flow.
We should see the wind calm some this afternoon, predicted north at 10 knots. Look for semi-clean surf later today as small ground swell fades out.
High tide is at 10:41 a.m., and low tide will be at 4:57 p.m. The next high tide is at 11:04 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 5 seconds in a high angled north-north-east wind swell with a south-east ground swell 2.3 ft at 9 seconds.
Tropical Depression Peter is moving out of our swell window and we look for fading ground swell mixed with north-east wind swell today. Look for waves to drop off for the weekend as north-east flow increases and sends north-easterly swell past our beaches and down to Florida. All eyes will now be on Hurricane Sam, which should send us some bigger swell starting late next week. Could be bigger than the other swells we have enjoyed as Sam is forecast to become a major hurricane. Keep an eye on it.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through the middle of next week. A cold front could move through next Thursday.”
It’s a beautiful 66* and sunny. Look for a high of 76* and sun today. Awesome fall weather here.
Water temperature is going down. It’s 80*.
Sunrise is at 7:09 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:13 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
