Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, Sept. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
You can now park in right-of-ways on the side streets at Folly Monday through Thursday. Keep in mind parking restrictions still apply Friday through Sunday. Check the City of Folly Beach’s Web site for more information.
We still have a mandatory mask ordinance in effect for Folly Beach.
Surf is waist-to-stomach high with a chest set. It’s bumpy, but there are some clean sections, but it looks fun.
It’s a little soft at the morning’s high tide.
West/south-west at 5 knots.
Look for winds to remain from the west this morning. Going strong north-west late in the day as a cold front passes our area tonight. Surf should remain fairly clean before being beat down by north-west winds, late.
We have a high tide at 9:07 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:15 p.m. The next high tide will be at 9:25 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data showing 4.6 ft at 6 seconds in a south/south-west wind swell.
Surf at Folly currently showing waist-to-stomach high and clean. There is an occasional bigger set. It looks pretty fun. Look for surf to get beat-down by off-shore winds late day, but there should be something to ride most of your Friday. Hurricane Sally will push off-shore today. Saturday we should see swell begin to fill in from Hurricane Teddy, but strong north/side-shore winds are forecast for Saturday behind tonight’s cold front, and winds go strong north-east Saturday night. There will, however be big surf this weekend, so keep an eye on Teddy over the weekend, and look for increasing north winds. Swell and north-east winds will continue into the work week, falling off mid-week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “The remnants of Sally will move offshore today. Then, a cold front will then pass through Friday night, followed by strong high pressure persisting through next week.”
It’s 75* with clouds this morning. Look for a high of only 78* with clouds in the forecast this afternoon.
Water temperature is 84*.
Sunrise is at 7:04 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:21 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
