Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, September 24 at 8:30 a.m.
As the morning temperatures begin to cool off, come by and check out the wet-suit jackets and spring suits we have in stock. Come and get’em before they are gone.
Surf has built overnight. It’s running waist-to-stomach high with a larger set. There is side-offshore north winds blowing at a good clip; around 20 knots. Expect higher gusts later this afternoon as Tropical Cyclone 16 moves off-shore to our east today.
Surf zone is semi-clean and very drifty north-to-south. Waves are closing out at the lower tide, but should improve on the incoming. The swell has a lot of east in it.
Look for north winds to continue, gusting up to 25-to-35 knots this afternoon.
Tide is now coming in, and high tide will be at 1:43 p.m. Low tide is at 8:15 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at 10 seconds in an easterly ground swell, with a north-east, short-period wind swell running 8 feet at 7 seconds.
There is some building easterly swell in the water compliments of what is Tropical Cyclone 16 almost directly to our east. This home grown low should push in swell all day. Hard to tell if it will hold overnight into Saturday as the storm comes on shoe to our north tonight and winds come hard offshore for Saturday. Hopefully some of the sell will hold on for Saturday morning as the tide starts to come in. Sunday and into the beginning of the work week we see smaller surf. Get on it today if you can.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen will impact the region to our north today. High pressure will build across the region Saturday and remain in place through early next week. An unsettled weather pattern could impact the area by the middle of next week. Refer to the latest advisory on Potential Tropical Cyclone 16 issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
Water temperature is around 82*.
It’s 70* and feels great this morning. Look for a high of 77* sun mixed with clouds and lots of wind at the beach today. We are under a tropical storm warning.
Sunrise is at 7:07 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:17 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
