Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, September 23 at 8:30 a.m.
The Mermaids and Mayties Festival will be Saturday at Folly, so make sure to plan accordingly if you are coming to the beach. Center Street will be shut down.
Surf at Folly this morning is still running pretty big. Around waist-to-chest high with a head set.
Problem is the winds are strong side-shore, from the north at 20 to 25 knots after a cold front passage last night. So, surf is semi-choppy and there is a ton of drift down the beach. Waves have a high north angle on them. Lots of current and rip-tides today. Crowd isn’t so bad, though.
Winds come slightly more onshore from the north-east this afternoon at 15 to 20 knots, and we see semi-choppy surf this afternoon as the Fiona swell begins to fade some.
We had a high tide at first light. Low tide is at 12:38 a.m. High tide will be at 7 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is has increased again overnight. It is 10.2 feet feet at 10 seconds in a long-period south/south-east ground swell from Hurricane Fiona.
Fiona will be our main swell-maker late week. If you don’t know how to surf, don’t paddle out today. Winds are strong north (this morning) north-east (for afternoon) today behind a cold front. Look for lots of drift down the beach today. Swell is likely to hold and begin to fade some this afternoon. Might be some leftovers for Saturday morning at the high tide with more moderate easterly winds. Surf looks small for Sunday.
