Choppy, drifty.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Waist-to-stomach. Chest sets.
Traffic: Not bad.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: Jelly stings.

Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, September 8 at 8:30 a.m.

WE received a new shipment of Torq boards at the shop, as well as some new Catch Surf Boards. Come grab ‘em. The waves have been fun.

Waves at Folly this morning are averaging waist to stomach high. There is a bigger set.

Winds are north at 15 to 20 knots, and surf is side-shore, choppy and jumbled up. There is a significant drift down the beach.

Winds rotate easterly this afternoon around 15 to 20 knots. We should see a choppy surf-zone later today with continued drift down the beach.

We just had a high tide, and low tide will be at 1:33 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:05 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.3 feet at 11 seconds in a long-period south-east ground swell, with a fresh, short period north-east wind swell 4.3 feet at 5 seconds.

We should continue to see swell from Hurricane Earl today with easterly winds that should chop up the surf this afternoon.  Surf looks to continue into Friday, but as Earl moves farther to the north, swell will get a high north-east angle on it. We do expect some surf to hold for Saturday, which is good news for the weekend warrior. Might want to head to Florida or the Outer Banks Sunday through Tuesday as the angle of the swell goes more north. There are a few more tropical spots to watch in the Atlantic, so maybe some hope for some more swell latter part of next week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Weak troughing will prevail today ahead of a cold front moving into the area on Wednesday. The front will likely stall to the south into the weekend while high pressure builds in from the north.”

Water Temperature is around 83*.

It’s 75* and cloudy this morning with heavy rain. Look for a high of 81* and rain all day with a flood watch in effect.

Sunrise is at 6:59 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:34 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
