Halloween, 2020

Soft, drifty, side-shore. More on-shore and semi-choppy for afternoon, with lots of drift.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Thigh-to-waist. Building.
Traffic: Not too bad.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Halloween 2020. As if 2020 could get any scarier.

Surf at Folly is thigh-to-waist high in a drifty north-east wind swell.

Winds are strong from the north at 20 knots. Surf zone is fairly clean but pulling hard from north-to-south, down the beach. It is weak at the morning’s high tide, but seems to be building.

Look for winds to clock more side/onshore from the north-east at 20 knots this afternoon. Surf should remain drifty and build in size today in a high-angled, north-east wind swell.

We just had a high tide, and low tide will be at 2:33 p.m. The next high tide is at 8:40 p.m.

Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 4 ft at 9 seconds in a medium period easterly swell.

Winds should abate some overnight, and Sunday should see continued, high-angled easterly swell in the water, with rideable waves. A secondary cold front moves through late Sunday and pushed swell down early in the work week. There is another tropical wave in the Central Caribbean that looks to move north, into our swell window, as it continues to develop into the middle of next week. There is uncertainty with the track, but some models have it pushing up swell for the middle-to-latter part of next week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail through early Sunday. A cold front will move across the area late Sunday. High pressure will return on Monday and persist through late week.”

It’s 56* and noticeably cooler with sunshine this morning. Look for a high of 70* with sun today. We have perfect fall beach weather.

Water temperature is 72*.

Sunrise is at 7:37 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:28 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
