Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Memorial Day , May 31 at 8:30 a.m.
We want to remember all who served our country and those that sacrificed on this Memorial Day. Y’all be safe and enjoy the holiday.
We will close at 5 p.m. today for the holiday.
After a fun morning of surf yesterday, surf at Folly this morning is knee high. Swell has fallen off after a day of off-shore winds.
Winds are north at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is side-shore, weak and clean. There is a slight drift down the beach north-to-south.
Winds rotate north-east, then east at 10 knots this afternoon. Surf-zone should get semi-choppy as the day wears on.
We have a high tide at 1 p.m., and a low tide at 6:54 p.m.
We see small, high-angled east/north-east wind swell to start the holiday work week. High pressure sets up to our north, as a broad low develops well off-shore to our south-east late in the week. This will cause significant on-shore flow from the south-east late week. Surf should be on the increase later in the work week with a nice trade-winds swell rolling in Thursday into the weekend. Winds trend south at 10 to 15 knots for the period, so expect some chop in the ground swell.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail into mid week with unsettled weather expected by late week and continuing through early next week.”
Enjoy the last cool weather until October. It’s 65* and beautiful at the beach. Look for a high of 74* and sun today.
Water temperature is around 77*.
Sunrise is at 6:12 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:22 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
