Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, August 17 at 7:30 a.m.
Gary Wilson, Album, Roberts and Jason Rowells boards arrived this week. Come check them out while we still have a good selection.
New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.
Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee-high. Maybe a slightly large set, but it’s breaking right on the beach at the higher tide.
Winds are west north at 5 mph this morning making for clean – but textured – surface conditions.
Look for winds to shift north-east at 10 to 12 knots this afternoon, adding some side-shore surface chop to the surf zone.
We are coming off a high tide at sunrise, low tide will be at 12:56 p.m. The next high tide will be at 7:24 pm.
The Edisto Buoy is only reading 1.6 ft. at 7 seconds in a small, medium period easterly swell with a small, short period north-east wind swell component.
Surf remains small to start the work week. Look for a small uptick mid-week Tropical Storm Josephine is now in the western Atlantic. Unfortunately Josephine hits unfavorable conditions right when she enters our swell window and begins to loose steam. It’ll likely start showing some longer-period swell Tuesday into-the latter part of next week. Nothing too big, but might be a few fun ones with moderate southerly winds forecast for our area. Also two new waves just came off Africa in the Eastern Atlantic are areas to watch for the long-term.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will dissipate to the south today, as a second cold front approaches from the northwest tonight. A trough of low pressure will then linger over the region through much of the week. High pressure is expected to return over the weekend.”
It’s 80* with clouds this morning. Look for a high of 87* and a 40% chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m. and sunset will be at 8 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
