Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday August 28th at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly has picked up showing belly-shoulder high in long period closeouts. Its clean this morning with a few corners but mostly closing out.
Winds are slack and the surf zone is clean. Look for winds to gradually pick up 5-10 mph out of the south later today.
We have a low tide at 11:58 a.m., tide then fills in at 6:32 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft at 11 seconds in building SE ground-swell.
Franklin swell again is here Franklin swell will peak Today into Tuesday and should get pretty solid shoulder high to maybe 1ft overhead on appropriate tides during the peak. Overall our beaches don’t generally handle this type of period so well expect lots of closeouts with a few gems mixed in. Winds will be light SE during the event and shouldn’t hinder it to badly. Meanwhile, off the Yucatan peninsula TD10 is brewing and forecasted to become a Hurricane as well. All models now in agreement Idalia in the southern Gulf and cross over northern Florida and head right over our marine area on Weds. Look for rapidly increased onshore winds and surf as a result. This systems center stays very close to the coastline while in the Carolinas as is it slides further north winds will begin to rotate more favorable to offshore Thursday. Watch the flags during those hours because this swell wont last long but it will be a short but very sweet session in my opinion. That’s all for now anything changes will update.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will stall northwest of the region into Tuesday. Tropical Cyclone Idalia is expected to move across the eastern Gulf of Mexico early this week, then impact the local area by mid-week bringing a number of impacts to the area. High pressure will rebuild into the area by late week and continue into the weekend. Refer to the latest advisory on Idalia issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 83* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 87* with sun mixed with clouds.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
