Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, December 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Today is the Winter Solstice, so it’s the shortest day of the year. More sunlight is in the forecast for the rest of the year.
Surf at Folly this morning is flat-to-knee high at best. Looking weak overall.
Winds are north/north-west at 10 to 15 knots, and surf zone is clean.
Look for winds to go west this afternoon at 15 to 20, and surf should get side-shore and textured this afternoon, but waves remain small.
Tide is coming in, and high tide will be at 1:08 p.m. The next low tide will be at 7:16 p.m.
Virtual buoy data is reading 1.6 ft at 6 seconds in a small south-east swell.
High pressure builds into our area for the next few days, and we should see off-shore flow and small surf as we don’t expect any strong systems to impact our marine area. Looking ahead long-range late in the work week we see a major front approaching our marine area building south wind swell significantly on Christmas Eve. This fades out on Christmas morning. Hopefully we can either get a cleanup session late Thursday or early Friday morning.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail through Wednesday. A storm system will move through Thursday evening, followed by cold high pressure.”
It’s 50* and overcast this morning. Look for the sun to come out this afternoon with a high of 54*.
Water temperature has dropped to 55*.
Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:17 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
