Very choppy and drifty.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Thigh to waist, should build some.
Traffic: Not much.
Parking: Yes.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, Dec. 23 at 8:30 a.m.

We will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, so come on by and get your last minute Christmas shopping done for the surfer on your list.

Surf at Folly is thigh to waist high at the Pier this morning, and looks unappetizing. Cold and a super drifty north/north-east wind on it.

Winds Are moderate out of the north/north-east at 15 to 20 knots making for side-shore, drifty conditions. This is expected to continue all day.

We came off a early morning low, have a high tide at 1:42 p.m., will have a low tide at 8 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 7 feet at 7 seconds in a very high angled north/north-east wind swell, which is passing by our beaches off shore, and headed south.

We have a low pressure system developing off-shore, and this should push in some waves for Tuesday and Christmas day, but the wind will pay a factor. Wind should go more northerly, and this will clean up the surf some Tuesday into Christmas Day. Late week sees more northeasterly swell, with some drift and wind. There should be some surf of varying quality for the Christmas holiday, so get those new Christmas wetsuits in the water.

Your NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our waters calls for: “High pressure will prevail today as a weak area of low pressure develops offshore through tonight, before lifting away from the area Tuesday. High pressure is expected to return by mid week.”

The water temperature is around 55*.

It’s 40* with clouds and the wind-chill is 34*, so no one is surfing right now.

Sunrise was at 7:15 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:17 p.m.

Thanks for tuning in for the Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast.
