Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, Dec. 23 at 8:30 a.m.
We hope everyone has a great holiday season. We will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, so come see us today or early tomorrow.
Surf at Folly this morning is chest-to-head high. There is an over-head set, and it’s pretty gnarly out there.
Winds are east/north-east at 20 to 25 knots, and surf zone is super choppy and disorganized in a strong, short-period easterly wind swell. It’s not a day for beginners or lessons.
Look for winds to rotate east today at 25 to 35 knots, and surf stays choppy and drifty all day.
We have a low tide at 11:28 a.m. and high tide will follow at 5:26 pm.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 15 ft. at 10 seconds in a BIG south-east ground swell. Merry Christmas, from the Edisto Buoy.
We see choppy, over-head surf continue today, with strong winds and squalls along the coastline and drifty, disorganized conditions. We are hoping for a clean-up late Tuesday or early Christmas day, when winds come north at 10 to 15 knots. Looking well ahead to late work week high pressure pushes offshore and could see a smaller trade swell with cleaner, warmer conditions, with another front approaching our waters over the weekend, pushing in another pre-frontal south wind swell. Either way tons of surf this entire week of Christmas, just keep your eyes on the flags.
It is a warmer 63* with clouds and heavy rain. There is flooding in spots on the island. Look for rain to continue with a high of 65*.
Water temperature dropped with the strong north winds, it’s around 53*. You’ll be most comfortable in a 4/3, booties, gloves and a hood.
Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:18 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Strong low pressure will pass off the coast today into tonight, bringing numerous impacts to the area. The weather will improve Tuesday as the low moves far offshore. High pressure will then prevail across the region mid to late week, bringing dry conditions and above normal temperatures.”
