Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, January 3.
Power has been out all day at Folly until now, so we are now opened up. Sorry we could not get the surf report to you this morning. Just had no way to post pictures and videos. What a way to start the New Year. These pictures are from THIS MORNING. Surf has fallen off significantly since then with hard off-shore winds.
Surf at The Washout this morning was big and unruly. It was head high and maybe a little bit bigger. It was super drifty with strong side-shore westerly winds.
Winds are now north/north-west at 25 to 30 knots with a higher gust, and it’s just blowing the surf out so fast. Ugh.
Look for winds to stay north-west at 20 to 25 until late. It should finally diminish overnight.
Low tide will be at 2:20 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:17 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 12 feet at 8 seconds in a south-west wind-swell.
Wave have dropped off so much as winds crank off-shore this afternoon. Waves drop rapidly Monday night as cold high pressure sets up to start the first week of January. Tuesday sees a choppy, short-period north-east wind swell average thigh high. Surf will get smaller into the middle of the work week as north flow continues. We could see a small up-tick in south-west wind swell late week ahead of another cold front, but not quite like we saw yesterday and today.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Cool high pressure will build into the area and persist through the middle of the week. Another cold front could impact the area late this week.”
It’s currently 56* and getting cooler with this strong off-shore wind. It is now sunny.
Water Temperature is hovering around 60*. That’s going to drop out.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:25 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
