Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, January 31 at 8:30 a.m.

We just received a shipment of Billabong men’s 4/3 wetsuits. You’ll certainly need one this morning. It’s pretty dang cold out there.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high.  Looks fun and clean for a longboard glide.

Winds are west/north-west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is clean.

Look for winds to rotate more westerly this afternoon at 10 knots, and surf zone stays relatively clean today.

We are coming off a high tide this morning, and low tide will be at 1:11 p.m. High tide is at 7:10 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.9 ft. at 7 seconds in a short-period south-west wind swell.

We see south-west wind waves fade as the tide goes out today. High pressure builds from the north Tuesday and Wednesday, and we expect waves to be small Tuesday, but pick up some on Wednesday in a small, high angled north-east wind swell. It’s looking like late week is the call for the best surf as a cold front approaches and we see south wind swell picking up chest high with choppy conditions Thursday through Saturday. After this cold front passage, winds will go strong north-east and push up another choppy, high angled north-east wind swell for Saturday into Sunday.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will extend across the area through tonight. Stronger high pressure will build from the north Tuesday and early Wednesday before moving offshore. Warmer temperatures will then prevail until a cold front moves through late in the week. Colder high pressure should then return this weekend although an upper disturbance could keep it unsettled.”

It’s 47* at Folly Beach this morning. It will be sunny with some clouds all day with a high of 54*. Not too bad this afternoon.

Water Temperature dropped to 48* with this cold snap. That’s about as cold as the waster gets at Folly.

Sunrise is at 7:14 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:51 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
