Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.

Traffic: Not too bad.
Parking: Cars at key surf spots.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, January 17 at 8:30 a.m.

We will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We are transferring over to a new point of sale system, so sorry about the inconvenience. It’ll be cold and flat anyway, and we appreciate your patience.

Surf at The Washout this morning is stomach-to-chest high with head high sets.

Winds are strong side-shore, west, at 15 to 20 and seem to be on the increase. Surf is very drifty and choppy, but there is some size.

Look for west winds to increase at 20 to 30 this afternoon, and surf should look about the same all day, dropping some size and getting blown out.

Tide is super high in the rocks this morning. We have a low tide at 1:35 p.m. We have a high tide at 7:38 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 10 ft. at 7 seconds in a long period south swell with a shorter period south-west wind swell mixed in 11 ft at 8 seconds.

There are some big, windy leftovers this morning, but it is pretty dang cold and drifty. We see increasing westerly wind today and surf should lose some size at the lower tide with continued drifty conditions. Surf gets small for mid-week with off-shore flow. Look for surf to possibly pick up again late week as a coastal low impacts our marine area Friday night.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Cold high pressure will build into the region today and Tuesday, moving offshore Wednesday. A reinforcing cold front will move through the area Thursday. A coastal low pressure system could impact the area Friday and Friday night, followed by cold high pressure.”

It’s 46* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 46* and sun with wind today.

Water Temperature is hovering around 54*. It’s mid-January.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:37 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
