Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, July 16 at 8:30 a.m.

Coming to you from the Washout, waves this morning are thigh high with waist high sets. It’s soft at the high tide, but the longboard crew is catching the most.

Winds are west at around 5 knots – light side-shore – and waves are clean this morning.

Winds will increase a bit and rotate south this afternoon at 5 to 10 knots, and we expect some moderate surface chop on the waves later today.

We are coming off a high tide as of report time this morning. Low tide will be at 2:09 p.m., and the next high tide will be at 8:39 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 feet at 5.9 seconds in a south/south-west wind swell.

We have a little something to ride this morning at high tide. It’s thigh high with a bigger set and clean. We have a new development in Subtropical Storm Don. It’s pretty far out there in the middle of the ocean and will be hanging out for a while as it loops around. Waves are looking pretty small for mid-week, but we should see strong south-west winds late week ahead of a front. This could push up a little choppy, small swell for late in the week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A surface trough will persist inland today, with fronts to our north through midweek, and Atlantic High pressure far offshore through the end of the week. A cold front could impact the region during the weekend.”

Water temperature is around 85*

It’s 83* and sunny this morning.  Expect sunny and hot today with a high of 88* and a heat index around 104* Stay hydrated! There is a slight chance for a thunderstorm mid-afternoon.

Sunrise is at 6:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:28 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
