Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, March 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high with a waist high set. It is closing out at the morning’s low tide. Maybe a slightly bigger set as the tide comes in later this morning.
Winds are north at 15 to 20 knots, and surf is side-shore, very drifty and semi-clean.
Look for winds to remain strong from the north-east this afternoon at 15 to 20 with a gust to 25 knots. Surf will be drifty down the beach and semi-choppy as north-east swell continues today.
We have a low tide at 9:27 a.m. We will have a high tide at 3:18 p.m., and a low tide will be at 9:14 p.m.
Virtual buoy readings are showing 8.8 ft. at 9 seconds in a high-angled, medium-period east, north-east swell.
A wedge of high-pressure is anchored over our marine area as a low-pressure system lingers off-shore. This brings strong north-to-north-east winds for today and Tuesday with similar drifty conditions. It’ll likely still be rideable, but you’ll want to park a car at each end of the island and drift south to the other end. This swell trend runs through the early part of the work week. Swell comes more on-shore on Wednesday as winds trend south for the latter part of the work week, and conditions could improve some. Either way, look for rideable surf this week.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “A wedge of high pressure will remain in place through the middle of the week while low pressure lingers offshore. A cold front could then impact the region by late week.”
It is currently 56* with sun this morning. Look for a high of 67* with sun. Should be nice beach weather, if not a little windy.
Water temperature is around 60*.
Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:32 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
