Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, November 7 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout this morning are waist to stomach high with a slightly bigger set. It looks fun, if not a little weak. High volume board will likely be the call.
Winds are north at 10 knots and surf is side-shore and clean with just a slight drift down the beach from north-to-south.
Look for north-east winds at 10 to 12 knots today, and we see a semi-choppy surf zone later today.
Tide is going out. Low tide is at 12:06 p.m., and the next high tide will be at 6:16 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.9 feet at 9 seconds in a mix of medium period south-east swell and short-period east/south-east wind swell. Plenty of swell at the buoy means waves all day for Folly Beach.
Subtropical Storm Nicole is now in the picture and begins to develop off-shore to the south of our marine area for much of the upcoming work week. She looks to move on-shore in Florida before recurving into our vicinity late week. Kind of the same track as Ian. With high pressure situated to our north and Nicole developing to our south, we should see winds continue to significantly increase from the east/north-east. This flow will increase our wave size this week, with windy conditions. Look for choppy, drifty surf on this upcoming swell as winds will trend east to north-east at around 15 knots, going stronger late week. Should be plenty of size on the swell through Friday. If the winds trend more north, perhaps the swell will be side-shore and cleaner. Something to keep an eye on.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: Strong high pressure will prevail through the first half of the week. Subtropical Storm Nicole could impact the area as a tropical cyclone during the latter half of the week. A cold front is then expected to sweep the region this weekend. Refer to the latest advisory on Nicole issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
Water temperature is running around 68*
It’s warm and sunny at the beach. It’s 69*. Look for a high of 75* and sun all day. We have nice fall beach weather.
Sunrise is at 7:40 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:36 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
