Side-shore and drifty. Semi-clean.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Thigh/waist. Slightly larger.
Traffic: Not too bad.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Moonday, October 20 at 8:30 a.m.

Keep in mind, there are no more parking restriction at Folly Beach. Parking is now available on Center Street and all side-streets.

The Folly Beach Pier is now closed as they prepare to tear it down and build a new structure.

Surf at Folly is showing thigh-to-waist high in drifty semi-clean conditions.  There is a slightly larger set, and looks kind of fun for the high-volume board, early.

Winds are still moderate out of the north at around 10 knots, making for drifty conditions.

Look for winds to come more onshore for afternoon at 10 to 15 knots. Surf should stay slightly drifty and get semi-choppy this afternoon.

Look for a high tide at 10:32 a.m. with a low at 4:45 p.m.

Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data is showing 3.3 ft at 8 seconds in medium-period east/north-east swell.

We still have some high angled north-east swell in the water as the tide come in this morning with slightly drifty conditions. Look for surf to pick up mid-week as a tropical storm and possible hurricane begins to take shape south-east of Bermuda which is now Tropical Depression Twenty-Seven. This should pick surf up in Easterly ground-swell beginning Wednesday and increase surf through the latter part of the work week, though Saturday. Winds will trend moderate north-east for the period, so expect some drift in the swell. So, look for ground swell to pick up mid-week and carry for several days.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure and a weak coastal trough will persist into late week. Next weekend, a cold front could push into the region then could stall near the Southeast coast.”

It’s 66* a bit chilly this morning with sun and high clouds at the beach this morning. Look for a high today around 78. We have perfect fall beach weather here at Folly today.

Water temperature is 74*.

Sunrise is at 7:23 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:46 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
