Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m.

You can now park in right-of-ways on the side streets at Folly Monday through Thursday. Keep in mind parking restrictions still apply Friday through Sunday. Check the City of Folly Beach’s Web site for more information.

We still have a mandatory mask ordinance in effect for Folly Beach.

Surf is waist-to-chest high with a head (plus) set in an easterly ground swell and north-east wind swell combo. It has a high north angle on it. It is semi-clean and very drifty from north-to-south, down the beach.  If you’ve got the arms, go paddle.

Winds are north at 20 to 25 knots. It is blowing hard side-shore, early.

Look for winds to clock more north-east and gust to 30 knots this afternoon. We see a drifty surf-zone all day.

We have a high tide at 11:49 a.m., and a low tide will be at 6 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is down. Virtual buoy data showing 6 ft at 16 seconds in a long period east/south-east swell with a medium-period east/north-east swell 8.9 ft at 9 seconds.

We have building ground swell today with north-east winds making for very dirfty conditions. We should see swell begin to peak from Hurricane Teddy today, fading some on Tuesday, but still plenty of swell. We see strong north/side-shore winds are forecast through the period. There will, however, be bigger surf today and tomorrow. So, keep an eye on Teddy’s ground swell and look for increasing north-east winds. Big swell and north-east winds will continue into the first half of the work week. Look for surf falling off some Thursday and into the weekend.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Strong high pressure will continue to build into the area through midweek. By late week, remnants of tropical cyclone Beta could bring unsettled weather to the area. Then, a cold front could approach the region early next week.”

It’s nice and cool this morning. It’s 60* and sunny. Look for a high of 73* today and some sun with passing clouds this afternoon.

Water temperature has dropped with the cooler weather, is 77*. You’ll need a neoprene jacket this morning.

Sunrise is at 7:07 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:16 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
