Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, May 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there. All moms get a free bar of Sticky Bumps wax today. Just mention the surf report at the counter.
Waves at The Washout this morning are flat with a fresh, strong north wind blowing down the beach.
Winds are west north/north-east at 15 to 20, and surf is side-shore with some chop in the surf zone. There is a current down the beach, which should increase today.
Look for winds to continue north/north-east today at 15 to 20. We see drifty, small north wind swell today.
We are coming off a low tide. High tide is at 2:09 p.m., and low tide will be at 7:56 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.3 feet at seconds in a short period north wind swell. This is passing straight by our beaches.
We see strong northerly flow to start the work week. This will send in high angled north-east wind swell, and most swell will pass our beaches, but there might be a drifty longboard wave out there starting Monday. We see changes mid-week when low pressure is predicted to form to our north-east, off the mid-Atlantic states, with blocking high pressure to the north. This could push up a high angled north-east swell Wednesday into Thursday. Swell looks like it will have a lot of north in it mid-week. We could potentially see fun surf Friday into Saturday of this week as the swell rotates more on-shore as the low sits in our swell window. Something to keep an eye on for sure. We’ll keep you updated.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Dry high pressure will build over the area through the middle of next week. Atlantic low pressure will produce unsettled weather late next week.
It’s 61* with clouds this morning after a cold front passage. Look for a high of 68* with mostly cloudy skies today.
Water Temperature is around 75*. It might drop a few degrees this week with the northerly flow.
Sunrise is at 6:25 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:07 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
