Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for New Year’s Eve 2020 at 8:30 a.m.

We will close at 2 p.m. today – New Year’s Eve. We will be closed New Year’s Day. We hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.

Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a chest-high set. There is a bigger set, occasionally.

Winds are south/south-west at 5 knots, and surf is bumpy but pretty clean, early. It is a bit soft at the higher tide, but it looks fun this morning for sure.

Look for winds to pick up from the south this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots, and surf should get choppy this afternoon.

We have a high-tide this morning at report time, and low tide will be at 2:43 p.m. High tide will be at 8:41 p.m.

Virtual buoy data is reading 5.7 at 6 seconds in a building, short-period south-easterly wind swell.

Fun surf today, and plenty of swell off-shore. As a cold front approaches Friday, and we should see southerly flow and an increase in south swell today through Sunday as a cold front impacts the area this weekend.  Winds will trend moderate from the south for the period, and surf should overall be semi-choppy for the period. After a cold front passage on Monday, surf should fall off to start the first work week of the New Year.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A coastal trough will push inland into tonight. A cold front will then impact the area late Friday through the weekend. High pressure will return Monday and prevail through early next week.”

It is a warm 65* at the beach this morning with cloudy skies. We expect a high of 67* with clouds and some rain showers this afternoon.

Water temperature has dropped to 53*.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:23 p.m.
