Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, December 31 – New Year’s Eve – at 8:30 a.m.

We will close at 1 p.m. on today and be closed New Year’s Day. We will not do a surf report on New Year’s Day, so we can take a day off. Haha.

Thank you to our loyal customers for helping keep the doors open at our small business during 2021. We really appreciate you all, and we look forward to what we hope will be an amazing year of surfing in 2022.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high this morning. It’s best for the long-board and it’s kind of closing out at the lower tide.

Winds are south-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is semi-clean.

Look for winds to stay west/south-west at 5 knots this morning. Going south at 10 knots mid-afternoon.

We have a low tide at 11:37 a.m., and a high tide at 5:30 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 feet at 6 seconds in a short period south-west wind-swell.

We see knee to thigh high surf today, with semi-clean conditions until mid-afternoon. Surf looks to stay small on the morning of New Year’s Day, but should start picking up in a short-period, south west wind swell in the afternoon as the tide comes in. This south-west wind swell increases significantly on Sunday as a strong cold front approaches our marine area, but wind will be on it for sure. Look for choppy, drifty waves averaging chest high for your Sunday with poor form. After a cold front passage, winds go strong north on Monday morning, which will be the best bet for a quick clean-up session, but it’ll be pretty chilly. Waves drop rapidly Monday as cold high pressure sets up to start the first week of January.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will generally prevail until a strong cold front move through Sunday. Much colder high pressure will then return into the middle of next week.”

It’s warm and cloudy this morning. It’s 65*. Look for a nice winter beach day with a high of 68* and some sun behind clouds this afternoon.

Water Temperature is hovering around 60*.

Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:24 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
