side-shore lots of drift

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: chest+ drifty
Traffic: none
Parking: Some to be found.
Dangers: Drift gale winds

Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, Nov. 16 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-chest high with some plus sets developing. Very drifty but some waves to surf if you want to put in the work.

Winds are north/north-east at 20 knots with higher gust. These winds resulting in difficult drifty semi-unorganized surf zone for Charleston.

Look for north winds to persist 20 knots today, with occasional gusts to 25.

We have a high tide at 10:04 a.m., and a low tide at 4:27 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 12.1 ft. at 8 seconds in a high angled east/north-east swell.

We expect strong north winds this Saturday and continued, high angled north-east wind swell in the chest high range. Most of this swell will again pass our shores and head south of our waters, but there is some swell wrapping in. We see ground-swell this weekend with strong north winds keeping bigger surf side-shore and drifty. The Low over us currently looks to depart further offshore tonight. As a result look for more favorable winds Sunday and hopefully cleaner surf. This swell begins its fading trend Sunday afternoon into Monday. Looking ahead surf looks small during our work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Low pressure will slowly pass offshore into Saturday, then move away on Sunday. High pressure will then prevail for most of next week.”

There is a gale watch at the beach today, with temperature at 51* and rain. Look for rain all day and a high of 52*.

Water temperature is dropping rapidly. It’s now 60*. It’s dropped 8* in about a week.

Sunrise is at 6:49 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:17 p.m.       Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
