Good morning, this is Scott with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m.

The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place at The Washout this weekend. Hopefully we see you out there!

Surf at the Washout this morning is just about dead flat.

Winds are south-south-west at 5 knots, and surf-zone is clean. Just not much surf at all.

Look for winds to switch north-west and then south-east at 4-7 knots for the remainder of the day.

We have a high tide at 11:22 a.m., and a low tide at 5:26 p.m. The next high tide is at 11:33 p.m.

The Edisto buoy is reading 1.3 ft at 8 seconds in a small, medium period easterly swell.

With high pressure set up over our marine area, we really don’t expect much surf for most of the work week. It’s worth keeping an eye on the tropics as what is now Tropical Storm Fred traverses into the Caribbean this week on a track to the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. Hopefully everything falls into place and best-case scenario we get waves for the Governor’s Cup or early next week.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the area into the upcoming weekend. A front will then approach the area Sunday. Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Fred is expected to move across the eastern Gulf of Mexico Sunday, then affect the Southeast Monday through Wednesday. Refer to the latest advisory on Fred issued by the National Hurricane Center.”

Today is a beautiful day with plenty of sun. It is currently 80* with a high of 86* today.

Water temperature is around 85*.

Sunrise is at 6:42 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:09 p.m.
