Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, October 5 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is pushing thigh high in building wind-chop conditions.

Winds are from the north-east at 20 to 25 knots, and surf is side-shore, choppy and drifty.  Not looking too good today as this north-east wind swell begins to build.

Look for strong north-east winds all day. We have choppy, building north-east wind swell for your Saturday, with lots of drift down the beach as a cold front passes our marine area.

We are coming off a low tide just after sun-rise, and high tide will be at 2:21 p.m. The next low tide is at 8:30 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 ft at 10 seconds in a long period east/south-east swell, with a building, short-period north-east wind swell 2 ft at 3 seconds.

Today, we see a strong cold front passage and strong, drifty north/north-east wind-swell build through Sunday into the waist to chest high range with a bigger set. This wind continues all weekend, but most of the swell looks to pass our shores and head to Florida. Winds could mellow out some to start the work week, but the swell will have a high easterly angle, so we’ll see what pushes into Folly Beach, but don’t be surprised to see some bigger, choppy surf Sunday. The wind could back off some on Monday, and perhaps clean up this high-angled easterly swell that’s forecast early week. Should be something to ride.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will pass through the area this morning, followed by high pressure through the rest of the weekend. A wave of low pressure could pass far offshore Monday, with another cold front to cross the area Monday night into Tuesday. High pressure will then prevail mid into late week before another cold front approaches the region next weekend.”

It’s 77* and cloudy this morning. It’s finally going to cool off today with clouds in the forecast, but a high of only 81*

Water temperature is still 82*, but expect that to drop into the mid-70s in the next 10 days.

Sunrise is at 7:15 a.m. and sunset will be at 6:59 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
