Pier Saturday December 8th

clean, choppy later

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: knee to waist
Traffic: none
Parking: plenty until parade
Dangers: parade floats

Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday Dec. 8 at 8:30 a.m.

The Folly Beach Christmas Parade will start at noon today. Stop by while you’re out here to grab a gift for your favorite surfer!

Waves at the pier this morning are less than knee high.

Winds are NNE around 15 knots but surf is still pretty clean.

Look for winds to gust up to 25 knots this afternoon as we see a front move in bring plenty of rain.

We are coming off a high tide now. Low tide will be at 2:31 p.m. and high tide will be at 8:25 p.m.  The Edisto buoy is reading 2 ft. at 4 seconds in a short period SE/NNE swell/wind combo.  Still small surf out there today with decent form, just breaking close to shore at this morning’s high tide.  There is a storm system brewing out of the Gulf and headed our way for the weekend. This low pressure system should begin to build waist to stomach high in choppy north-easterly wind-swell Saturday afternoon, building Sunday. Sunday morning should be choppy, but winds should come north later Sunday afternoon and surf could clean up some later in the day Sunday. But, look for lots of easterly current (down the beach) for Sunday.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A strong low pressure system will move through the area today through Sunday. High pressure will gradually build in from the west early next week. A cold front will move through Friday and Friday night.”

It’s 49* and cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 54* with storms beginning this afternoon.

Water temperature has dropped to 56*. It’s getting cold out there so come see us for some new neoprene.

Sunrise was at 7:07 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:13 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
