Good morning this is Bates your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, March 18 at 8:30 a.m.
New Gary Wilson mid-lengths and a batch of Pyzel boards just arrived. Come get ready for spring surfing.
Surf at Folly is waist-to-chest high with head high sets. Maybe slightly bigger in some sets.
The wind is still from the south-west, but is only blowing about 10 to 12 knots. The surf is semi-clean andd has some drift up the beach. We are looking at a cleanup as a cold front moves offshore, but it’s not looking too bad this morning. Just rainy.
We have a low tide at 11:58 a.m., and a high tide at 6 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.6 feet at 8 seconds in a medium period south swell, with a south/south-west wind swell reading 5 feet at 5 seconds.
We look for a cold front to move through this afternoon, and this should clean up the big south swell that we are currently seeing at Folly. After this cold front passage, winds come strong from the north on Sunday, then north-east to start the work week. This will build a drifty, high angled north-east wind swell through Wednesday. Thursday, winds come more on-shore, and conditions should get a little better as north-east swell begins to fade.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “A cold front will move through the region this morning. The front could become stationary just offshore this weekend. An area of broad high pressure will linger across the region through most of next week.”
It’s 63 with rain today. Look for rain on and off today with clouds. The temperature is likely to drop this afternoon to the mid-50s as the cold front passes our marine area.
Water temperature fell back to 62*. Brrrrr.
Sunrise is at 7:28 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:28 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
