Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, April 1, at 8:30 a.m.
Waves this morning are starting to show at 8 to 10 feet on the second reef. The roll-ins are like butter before they jack up on the inside reef with perfectly formed 8 foot barrels wrapping straight into the bay for about 100 yards where a mermaid -watching unicorns frolic on the beach – is sitting on a zodiac with a cooler full of cold beer to whisk you straight back into the line-up where only three of your best friends are waiting for you.
Nah, it’s April Fools Day, suckers, and we have waist to chest high thumpy south-west wind chop with strong south-west winds at about 15 to 20 knots. There is drift up the beach, but it’s rideable, so there is some drifty surf out here today if you want to get wet. It doesn’t look too terrible, just slightly punishing.
Winds will increase from the south-west this afternoon as a line of strong storms moves through sometime late day.
We have a low tide at 11:44 a.m., and a high tide at 5:46 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5 feet at 6 seconds in a short-period south wind swell.
A cold front approaches today and sends in a shot of choppy south/south-west wind swell for Saturday, possibly cleaning up for Sunday morning when we could see some fun surf after this cold front passage. The beginning of the work week looks like small surf once again.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “A cold front will cross through the region today, followed by a return of High pressure early next week.
“It’s 70** and partly sunny this morning. Look for a high of 73* with increasing clouds and strong storms later today.
Water temperature is back up to 65*.
Sunrise is at 7:07 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:39 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
