Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m.
It’s on. The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place today and tomorrow at The Washout. Come see who wins the state championship this weekend.
Surf at The Washout is showing knee high – pushing thigh – this morning but the tide is going out, so hopefully it’ll get a push as the tide comes in early afternoon.
Winds are west at 5 to 10 kts and then trend south later in the day around 10 knots. Overall, surf shouldn’t get too terribly choppy today.
Low tide is at 11:28 a.m., and high tide will be at 6:04 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 ft at 8 seconds in medium period south-east swell.
Surf is small this morning. Seems like the outgoing tide is hurting it. It is clean, though. Hopefully this little south-east swell will kick up some thigh high longboard waves this afternoon as the tide comes in. Sunday is likely to be windy in the afternoon and somewhat choppy with knee-to-thigh high surf continuing. Our next hope for small choppy swell comes Tuesday as south-west wind swell kicks up ahead of an approaching cold front. Right now we are stuck with high pressure and very hot weather.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will build into the area this weekend. A cold front could impact the area during the middle of next week.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s 80* with sun this morning. Expect sun mixed with clouds and 88* with sun and a high heat index for today.
Sunrise is at 6:40 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:08 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
