Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 13 at 8:30 a.m.
New Gary Wilson boards are in the shop, including a good many longboards. Get them while we still have some in stock. Wave season is coming.
The Governor’s Cup of surfing takes place at the Washout this weekend. This is pretty much the state championship, so come check it out.
Waves at Folly this morning are knee-to-thigh high with a waist set.
Winds are north-north-east – side-shore – at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is semi-clean with a bit of current down the beach.
Look for winds to rotate easterly – more on-shore – this afternoon, and we see a choppy surf zone as easterly wind swell/chop builds as the tide comes in late afternoon.
High tide will be at 9:30 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:34 p.m. The next high tide at 10:06 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading a 2.6 feet at 6 seconds in a south/south-west short period wind swell, but it’s pushing against the strong north-east winds at the moment.
Three is a little wave this morning but it’s hard to tell if it will hold through the low tide. Today and Sunday we see swell begin to rotate expecting some significant east/north-east winds. It will likely be fairly pretty small and choppy for Sunday. We could see a low-pressure system form offshore with a stalled frontal boundary just to our south. Unfortunately, most weather models don’t have this little system pushing up much swell. We’ll keep our fingers crossed, because other than that it’s looking pretty small for the majority of the week. Hey, at least it’s a good week to get back to school, because forecast is pretty dismal.
It’s 73* with bright sun this morning, and a little less humidity. Look for a perfect summer beach day with lots of traffic and probably only a slight chance for a few random assaults. We see a high of 83* and wind.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will stall just south of the area today, then lift back north as a warm front Sunday, while weak low pressure could form offshore. Another cold front will approach during the early and middle of next week.”
Water Temperature is around 84*. Sunrise is at 6:42 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:05 p.m.
