Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 27 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout this morning are knee-to-thigh high and clean. There might be a waist set at your top secret spots this morning. Grab the longboard and glide on in. It’s pretty similar to the past few mornings. With the crowd out here this morning you’d think it’s be head high and glassy.
Winds are northwest at 5 knots. We see winds rotate southeast mid-afternoon at 5 to 10 knots, and this should bump up the surf a little bit.
We have a high tide as of report time this morning. Low tide is at 2:30 p.m., and high tide is at 8:50 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 feet at 8.3 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell.
Surf looks pretty small to end the week, with perhaps a small pulse of lazy south-swell sneaking though and overall clean conditions. Sunday’s surf looks to fall off a bit, but there will likely still be some longboard surf in the water. We should see an increase in choppy south-west wind swell during the middle of next week. There is some potential for hurricane swell starting a week to nine days out. Just in time for Labor Day, but it’s still a long way out. There’s nothing like a hurricane swell mixed with a national holiday to keep local emergency rooms full.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A trough of low pressure will linger over or near the area through next week.”
Water Temperature is around 83*.
It’s 78* and cloudy at the beach. We see a high of 83* today with passing clouds and a marginal chance for showers and thunderstorms today.
Sunrise is at 6:51 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:50 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
