Saturday, August 7

Bumpy and soft, early. Bumpy for afternoon, but not too choppy.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Thigh-to-waist. Slightly bigger.
Traffic: Yes.
Parking: Some.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at the Washout this morning is thigh-to-waist high. Maybe a slightly larger set.

Winds are south-west at 5 to 10 knots. Surf is bumpy but there are some soft lines to be had at the higher-tide this morning.

Look for to stay north-west 10 knots this morning, rotating south west at 10 knots this afternoon. We see bumpier surf for afternoon.

We are coming off a high tide at sunrise. We have a low tide at 1:33 p.m., and a high tide at 8:03 p.m.

The Edisto buoy is reading 3.8 ft at 7 seconds in a medium period south-east ground swell mixed with a short -period wind swell from the south.

This morning looks ok if you need to get wet. It looks like the bigger boards will do better. This afternoon has potential with the incoming high tide if you don’t mind some bump in the surf, but your best bet is right now before it gets drained out and windy. Surf should fall off some late in the weekend as high pressure begins to move into our marine aera and we see less swell off-shore. There are several tropical systems forming in the Central and Western Atlantic that could turn into something more significant around a week to 10 days out. We’ll keep an eye on it.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “A weak front will remain just north of the area early this weekend. High pressure will then prevail across the area through much of next week.”

We have clouds  and showers this morning. It’s currently 78*. Look for mostly cloudy skies today with a high of 84* and a slight chance for showers.

Water temperature is around 83*.

Sunrise is at 6:38 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:11 p.m.
