Good Saturday morning everyone. This is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, December 27 at 8:30 a.m.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Now we need some waves to try out that shiny new board that Santa managed to bring down the chimney with not a single ding. He’s amazing like that.
Heck, Rusty’s are still $300 off if you wanna’ blow your Christmas money on poor life choices. It’s still healthier – and in some cases, cheaper – than a night out on Upper King Street.
Waves at the pier are pretty clean around knee-to-thigh high or so. Not much out today with beautiful, warm high pressure set up over our marine area.
Winds are slack this morning. We look for light westerly winds today at 5 knots or so. There is not much surf, but it is a beautiful beach day for late December.
We are going into a high tide at 12:41 p.m. Tide is low at 7:02 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is showing 3.3 ft. at 5 seconds in a short-period south wind swell.
Surf looking to stay small this weekend. Best for the log. The best chance for bigger surf will be Monday ahead of an approaching cold front/ Look for typical south/south-west wind swell to pick up Monday with choppy, drifty conditions. This cold front moves past on Monday night, and any leftovers will be blown down and out pretty quickly. If you need some surf this weekend, jump in the car, get a McGriddle and head to Central Florida.
Our friends over at NOAA predict: “High pressure will prevail through the holiday week. A cold front could move through the area Sunday night or early Monday.”
Water temp is 54*, so booties and a 4/3 suit would be best if you had it.
It’s 62* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 71* and sun today. Beach weather is fine, and insore fishing from that sweet flats boat would be the call today.
Sunrise was 7:19 a.m. Sunset 5:19 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
