Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, December 31 at 8:30 a.m.
Just a heads up. We will close at 2 p.m. on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, and will be closed on New Year’s Day. We will open for normal business hours on Monday, January 2. Happy New Year!!
Waves at the Washout this morning are waist high. Maybe a larger in a set in the stomach high range. There’s a heavy fog hanging over Charleston today drastically decreasing visibility. It could be fun to get out there and surf on an eerie, foggy morning.
Winds are south, south-east at 6 knots. Surf zone is mostly clean breaking close to shore with the morning low tide.
Look for winds to switch south, south west at 5-10 knots this afternoon, with considerable gusts in the 20+ knot range.
Low tide this morning was at 8:37 a.m. High tide will be at 2:56 pm.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.6 ft at 8.3 seconds in a medium-period east, south-east swell.
South-east swell continues through today as a warm front extends north-east and will likely lift over the area and weaken today into tonight. Expect a cold front to approach the area from the west, likely to hang around until Sunday night. Waves could clean up nicely for New Year’s as the tide comes in late morning and the winds switch west behind a cold front. That would be a great way to start 2023.
Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will move through the area tonight. High pressure will then build in through early next week, with another cold front affecting the area mid week.”
It’s not cold this morning. It’s 60* and lots of fog. Look for fog to continue throughout the day with a high of 74*.
Water temperature went way down over the past few days. It’s 52*, and you’ll need a 4/3 booties, gloves and a hood for this weekend’s swell.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:24 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
