Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, February 25 at 8:30 a.m.
Sea & Sand Festival is taking place today. The circus is in town, so the report is coming to you from the world-famous Folly Beach Pier.
Surf at the pier this morning is knee-to-thigh high with a waist high set in a high angled east wind swell.
Winds are easterly at 10 to 15 knots, and surf zone is choppy and side/on-shore with a drift down the beach, north-to-south.
Winds are predicted to come more off-shore and slack off this afternoon as a low pressure system moves north-east of our marine area. Surf could clean up later today.
We have a high tide at 11:47 a.m. and a low tide at 5:45 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 9.8 at an average of 7 seconds feet in a mix of east/north-east wind-swell and medium-period swell.
There is some drifty surf to catch for the log or fish this morning. It should clean up some this afternoon as low pressure moves out of our marine area. Surf on Sunday looks small, but south-west wind swell should build again ahead of a cold front Tuesday, before cleaning up and rapidly dropping Tuesday afternoon. Pre-frontal wind swells will be the story for most of the week, with surf picking up again on Friday in a south wind swell.
The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “A cold front will drop in from the northwest today and stall to our south Saturday morning. Another cold front will move through early Tuesday, followed by high pressure into Thursday.
It’s 62* and cloudy with showers this morning. Expect patrial clearing later today with a high of 87*.
Water temperature is 60*.
Sunrise is at 7:02 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:05 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
