Dangers: None.

Good morning this is Bates with you Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, February 4 at 8:30 a.m.

The Save the Light half-marathon is going down this morning, so it’s going to be hard to get to your favorite East End breaks, but it’s probably a better morning for running than it is for surfing.

Also, the pier is opened again and the parking lot has new tarmac.

All full wetsuits have been marked down 20%. We also have some hoods and gloves in stock. We have cold water waves on the way next week, so save some money and have a suit for next season at a great bargain.

Surf at The Pier this morning is knee-to-thigh high in a fresh, high angled north/north-east wind swell. It is semi-choppy. It is weak and super drifty down the beach. Most of the swell is moving south to Florida.

Winds are north/north-east around 15 to 20.

Winds should continue rotate more north-east today, and diminish to 10 to 15 knots this afternoon.

We have a low tide approaching at 1:10 p.m. High tide will fill in at 7:12 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 7 feet at 6 seconds in a short-period, high-angled north-east wind swell, mostly heading south.

We will see drifty, high-angled north-east wind swell today. High pressure moves off the mid-Atlantic states Sunday and will hopefully direct some swell on-shore by Sunday on the incoming tide as a trough lifts into our marine area, with lighter easterly wind in the forecast. Looks like waves could also be fun on Monday as winds come more offshore, and swell will linger into Tuesday with warmer weather and moderate winds as low-pressure forms to our south-east and high pressure sets up off the Mid-Atlantic. This should push up a decent swell Monday into Tuesday of the next work week. Rideable south swell should still be pushing in during the middle/ latter part of next week, with some south wind getting on it later in the week.

The NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure to the north will move off the coast this evening, then a coastal trough will lift north through the area tonight and Sunday. High pressure will then prevail through Wednesday. A cold front could bring a chance of showers late next week.”

It’s 39* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 53* and sun all day.

Water temperature is 57*.

Sunrise is at 7:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:55 p.m.
