Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, January 2 2021 at 8:30 a.m.

We will be open for regular operating hours today, so come on by and see us if you’re headed out for a surf.

Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a chest-high set.

Winds are west/south-west at 5 knots, and surf is bumpy but pretty clean, early. It is a bit soft at the higher tide, but it looks fun this morning for sure.

Look for winds to pick up from the south-west this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots with a higher gust, and surf should get choppy this afternoon.

We have a high-tide at 9:42 a.m., and a low tide at 4:05 p.m.

Virtual buoy data is reading 5.3 at 6 seconds in a short-period south wind swell.

Fun surf today, and plenty of south swell off-shore. As a cold front approaches our marine area today we see south-west winds increase ahead of the front. This should bring choppy conditions this afternoon. After a cold front passage tonight, winds will go strong from the west. Surf should clean up a bit for Sunday while dropping off. Surf looks small to start the work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will approach the area today before moving through tonight. High pressure will then prevail Sunday through the middle of next week before a low pressure system passes across the area during the second half of next week.”

It is a warm 66* at the beach this morning with cloudy skies and rain showers. We expect a high of 67* with clouds and rain this afternoon.

Water temperature has bumped back up to 56*.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:23 p.m.
