Side-shore and weak. Getting choppy.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Flat.
Traffic: Not too bad, yet.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: Power outages.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, January 23 at 8:30 a.m.

Sorry for the late report. There was no power on the west side of the island this morning. Thanks Dominion Energy!

I suppose it doesn’t matter too much. Surf at Folly is flat.

Winds are north/north-east at 15 knots, and surf is side-shore, semi-clean, weak and not good.

Look for winds rotating more north-easterly this afternoon and remaining around 15 knots. Surf should be small and semi-choppy this afternoon.

We have a low tide at 9:49 a.m., and a high tide will be at 3:47 p.m.

There is no swell at the buoy.

For now, there is not much hope for meaningful surf today with no swell off-shore. Winds go strong north-east this afternoon, but it will be a high-angled north-east wind swell and will not increase our surf for the weekend. Surf could pick up significantly in south/south-west wind swell late afternoon Monday into Tuesday as a cold front moves into our area to start the work week. Another storm system effects our marine area on Thursday. So next week, we might get some surf.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail through the weekend. A cold front will impact the region Tuesday, followed by another storm system mid-week. High pressure will return late week.”

It is 48* with sun this morning. Look for a high of 55* and sun this afternoon.

Water temperature is 53*.

Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:43 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
