Saturday, July 24

Choppy/drifty all day.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Knee-to-thigh. Building.
Traffic: Lots.
Parking: Some early, good luck later.
Dangers: The endless summer.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, July 24 at 8:30 a.m.

We just received a big shipment of new Epoxy Orion surfboards from Greg Geiselman. Come get ready for hurricane season with a new stick.

Surf at the Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high with a slightly larger set wave  in a weak, choppy easterly wind swell. Best for the bigger board for sure.

Winds are east/north-east at 10 to 15 knots.

Look for easterly winds to increase this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots with a gust to 20 knots. We see increasing, side-shore easterly wind chop to build this afternoon with lots of drift in the surf zone.

We have a high tide as of report time. Low tide will be at 2:38 p.m. The next high tide will be at 9:17 p.m.

The Edisto buoy is reading 3.9 ft at 7 seconds in a mixture of east swell and east/south-east wind swell.

We see high angled easterly wind swell pick up this afternoon and over the weekend as a tropical low lingers along the Georgia/Florida boarder along a stalled frontal boundary. There is a slight chance of tropical development according to the National Hurricane Center. With high pressure to our north, this should keep some wind and some drifty, high-angled easterly wind-swell in the forecast Saturday into Sunday.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “High pressure will build from the north this weekend while weak low pressure moves towards Florida. A typical summer pattern with high pressure in the Atlantic and weak low pressure inland is expected next week.”

It’s sunny and 77*. Look for a high of 83* today with partly sunny skies.

Water temperature is around 84*.

Sunrise is at 6:28 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:23 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
