Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, March 5 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to -thigh high with a rare waist high set.
Winds are north-east at 10 to 12 knots, and surf zone is side-shore and bumpy and soft at the higher tide in a fresh east swell.
Look for winds to rotate east at 10 knots late morning, then south-east at 10 knots this afternoon. We see a semi-choppy surf zone all day. Looks like surf might start to build some late day.
High tide will be at 9:45 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:42 p.m. The next high tide at 9:57 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is showing a fresh east/south-east swell 3.9 ft. at 8 seconds, with a north-east wind swell 2 ft at 4 seconds.
We look for building south trade-wind swell this weekend with slowly building conditions today as high pressure sets up well off the mid-Atlantic. This swell should be building significantly in a south wind swell Sunday as high pressure sets up off the mid-Atlantic. Should be bigger waves starting Sunday and this trend continues into the middle part of the next work week as winds come strong south-west. The only fly in the soup will be strong south to south-west winds, but there should be some waves to ride the majority of the upcoming work week. Swell goes smaller next weekend after a cold front passage at the end of the week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will build over the area through early next week. A series of fronts will bring unsettled weather to the area Tuesday into next weekend.”
It’s 59* with heavy fog in the area. Look for a high of 69* with sun and clouds mixed today.
Water Temperature is up to around 60*. It should be on the rise later this week as warm temperatures return.
Sunrise is at 6:43 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:19 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
