Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, May 27 at 8:30 a.m.
We just received a whole shipment of Aloha Ecotech longobards and a new batch of Mick Fanning softboards. Come check ‘em out.
Surf at the Folly Pier this morning is waist-to-chest high and should get a push as the tide comes in late morning.
Winds are north – side-shore – at 25 to 35 knots. There is a higher gust. A gale warning is in effect through 3 p.m. today. Surf is very drifty north to south and semi-clean. It’s not perfect, but it is rideable.
Look for north winds to diminish somewhat later today, blowing at 15 to 25 from the north-north/east later today.
We have a low tide at report time. High tide fills in at 2:37 p.m. another low to finish the day at 8:35 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 17 feet at 8 seconds in a very big east/north-east medium period swell, and some of this swell is sneaking into Folly, but I’d look at the Florida cams today for sure.
There is some big, drifty surf in the water today. We still see strong north/north-east winds today, but there is a tropical style low coming on-shore today around the Santee river basin. Winds will be tricky but keep you eyes on the flags. Could be some leftovers for Sunday as winds come west at 10 to 15, and weather will be much warmer. Surf will begin to drop out Sunday afternoon. High pressure will then return and settle in over our marine area keeping the surf on a downward trend Monday through the middle of your work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will build from the north through Thursday. A coastal low-pressure system will affect the area Thursday night through Saturday. Weak high pressure will then build in.”
Its 58*, cool, windy and rainy this morning. Look for a high of 65* today with rain and wind in the forecast.
Water temperature is 75*. Might drop a few degrees today. It’ll be right back up next week. p
Sunrise is at 6:14 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:19 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
