Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, May 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at The Washout this morning are knee-high with a rare thigh set. The wind is already getting into it.

Winds are west at 10 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy and side-shore. You’ll likely want to bring the high-volume board.

Look for winds to increase significantly from the west today at 15 to 20 knots with a higher gust. We see surf blown down by mid-afternoon.

We are coming off a low tide. High tide is at 1:14 p.m., and low tide will be at 6:58 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.2 feet at 6 seconds in a short period south-west wind wave.

Winds are predicted strong westerly this afternoon, blowing down the surf. Sunday looks to be small as wind and swell begins to rotate north. Next week, low pressure is predicted to form to our north-east, off the mid-Atlantic states with blocking high pressure to the north. Hard to tell if it will become a tropical system. This could push up a high angled north-east swell Tuesday and into the late next week as the low meanders off-shore of our marine area and moves to our south late week. Swell looks like it will have a lot of north in it. Likely some wind and waves for Folly, but this swell will probably hit a lot better in Florida. So, if you have the means, head down that way for some real surf.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Cooler high pressure will build over the area through the middle of next week. Atlantic low pressure will produce unsettled weather late next week into the weekend.”

It’s 72* with sun this morning. Look for a high of 79* with sun and some high clouds this afternoon.

Water Temperature is around 75*.  It’ll be 80* before you know it.

Sunrise is at 6:26 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:06 p.m.
